AEO insights company: what to look for and how to choose
An AEO insights company tells you how your brand performs inside AI answers: where ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity recommend you, where they recommend competitors, and why. The category is young, the vendors are uneven, and the difference between a useful partner and an expensive dashboard comes down to a handful of questions. Here is how to evaluate one.

What an AEO insights company actually delivers
At minimum, four things. Coverage: your visibility measured across the major assistants separately, because they disagree. Competitive context: who gets recommended when you do not, moment by moment and question by question. Source intelligence: which pages and platforms feed each answer, since those citations are where fixes happen. And trend lines: whether your share of answers is moving, tracked against the work you shipped.
The best test of insight quality is specificity. “Your AI visibility score is 34” is a number. “You lose the compliance-deadline conversation in three of four assistants because two stale comparison articles never mention you” is an insight someone can act on Monday.
Insights are half the job
Here is the uncomfortable pattern across this category: most AEO insights companies stop at the report. The dashboard shows what you are losing, the deck explains why, and the fixing lands back on your team, which is usually the team that was already at capacity. Insight without execution becomes a subscription to watching yourself lose.
So the sharpest evaluation question is: what happens after the insight? Ask whether the company pairs each finding with a concrete action, whether anyone executes those actions, and whether results are attributed to revenue. This is the line Aethon was built on: Contextual AI Presence Mapping© generates the insights from life moments rather than tracked prompts, and the Action Engine turns every gap into an executed fix, with AI referred pipeline tracked end to end.
The evaluation checklist
Ask every candidate these six questions. Which assistants do you measure, and separately or blended? Where do your prompts come from, and can you see the buying moments behind them? Do you show the sources feeding each answer? What happens after the insight, and who does the work? How do you connect answers to revenue? And what does it cost, published, or only after a sales call?
On that last one: Aethon publishes its pricing at $199, $399 and $799 per month, and you can benchmark the market on our GEO software pricing comparison. The fastest way to sample the insight quality itself is a free AI visibility audit: your buyers’ real questions through all four assistants, findings walked through on a 30 minute call.
